'we strike at dawn' - James Vincent (photostory research)

The next photo story I have looked at I liked because of how it portrays the characters as very normal, not these super prestige sports pros you usually see stories about. This fits into my own story well as I won't be following the best athletes in the world but regular people who are relatable to the viewer. The story shows the viewer not to take everything so seriously and the point of doing things like this is just to have fun.

The text is written from the view of one of the guys on the trip, I like how casual the style of storytelling is and I found it engaging and fun to read about. This furthered the feeling of taking life less seriously that I got from this story. The images also tell a story of a fun, playful morning as oppose to a morning spent trying to do the best tricks and that shows the viewer it's just about getting out and seeing what is around.

The first page, shows a large full bleed image, the title, author, and a small introductory sentence setting the care free mood of the story, the text says 'while most sensible human beings were slumbering cosily, our mission was to summit helvellyn - but it didn't quite work out that way'. This shows the viewer to embrace change and to make the most even if things don't go to plan. The picture also sets the colour scheme throughout the image, tells the viewer when and the location it was shot at. The image is of the sun rising behind the mountain, you see two men carrying bikes with snow covered tyres in lovely orange light.

The next page in is where they really start to tell the story, the start is instantly relatable to any regular person who doesn't like waking up in the morning. Its told from a first person view as if we are experiencing it to which helps bring the viewer along with them. This trip was done in-between lockdowns which tells the viewer they should make the most of any time they have as well as show them the hunger they have for getting out and how they missed getting outside in the lockdown. The page builds on the carefree, fun nature of the story by including closeup portraits of one of the riders covered in snow as well as an image of someone falling over. This not only shows the viewer that everyone makes mistakes but teaches people to make light of their mistakes when you can.

The last page talks about some of the hard/ difficult parts of the trip, highlighting that these kinds of sports require passion and dedication but also endless hours of fun of you decide to start. It shows people how sports like this can be addictive and how it keeps people coming back for more. The images show the terrain the rode along, a portrait of one of the riders, and a general 'scene' shot. On the page opposite they inform people about snow safety when it comes to bikes as well as the route, this pushes people to try it for themselves whilst also informing them of the necessary dangers and info they need for it.
