The National Union of Journalists (the NUJ)

The National Union of Journalists is an organisation dedicated to helping a huge group of different media professionals have better living and working standards. They aim to be a voice for journalists and help with a variety of different things such as, protecting and promoting the freedom of the media as well as ethical standards. They promote professionalism and want to improve pay for journalists and make sure that they are credited for the work that they do and properly rewarded.

Not only do the NUJ help journalists inside the job but they have a charity that provides support to all of the unions members. The NUJ extra has helped journalists and their families in things like, paying utility bills in tough times, grants to adjust their houses if they have a life changing accident and they help single parents and children who have lost their parents. They do all this and even provide a monthly payment to the families of deceased NUJ members.

There are regular events held for NUJ members that teach journalists the tricks of the trade and general information surrounding the many aspects of journalism. Even with the current covid world they are hosting events on zoom for things like, 'first steps in freelancing' and 'organising and recruitment training'
