actions in photoshop

actions are useful in photoshop to make tedious tasks quicker, like increasing image size, adjusting curves and levels and increasing or decreasing the brightness of an image. not only does this help with single images but photoshop allows you to use actions across multiple photos at the same time which can save a lot of time if you were shooting a big event and always did the same thing to all your images.

To add an action to photoshop you have to go to 'window - actions' from this window you press the new action button and give it a name, this is an action to increase an image by 10% so that's what I called it. next you hit record and manually do the 'action' you want to do, for this action I went to image size and increased the percentage size of the image by 10. Stop the recording and it will save and to use the action go back into the actions window and press play on your selected action.

The next action I added to photoshop was to auto adjust the curves and levels layer, this is useful if you wanted to put a basic edit on a batch of images before you selected and edited the main selection.

After this I added an action to increase the brightness of an image by 10%, this will speed things up for any photographer as 90% of the time you will be doing that in your edit anyway.

To see what any of the actions on photoshop do press the drop down arrow next to it and it tells you each step of the action.
